If you are looking for a puppy or a kitten please, I am begging you here, please look into your local shelters. If you do buy from a breeder, make sure it is a reputable one. And whatever you do, DO NOT buy from those stores they have in the malls. They tend to get their dogs from puppy mills. And they usually end up with a lot a health problems as a result-which you end up paying the vet bills for. I am in no way saying that strays are healthier, but they can often be brought back to health with a prescription.
Let me tell you a couple reasons why I love Stray Rescue.
1- They are a no-kill shelter.
2- They let you rent-a-pet for a weekend to see if the pet is a good fit in your home.
3- They want you to return the pet to them if your circumstances change and you can no longer keep your pet.
4- If you are a foster for them--they pretty much take care of everything you would need for the pet (i.e. a crate, bowl, food, leash), and vet bills
I was a foster till we realized my son was allergic to something in the dog's saliva. Her name was Polly. We called her Polly Pockets. She was so cute. She was about 2 months old when we got her. She was a pit mix. I think maybe with a black lab, but no one knows for sure. It was a shame that he was allergic because he loved that dog. He couldn't wait to come home to play with her. They would roll around on the floor together for hours if I would've let them. It was funny because as soon as we would come home, he would go to the crate and let her out. She would jump all over him for like 5 minutes. Then he would go in his room and she would follow him. She followed him into the bathroom and sat there while he took a bath. They were too cute together.
I would like to foster again, I am just worried about his allergies. I don't understand it because he is not allergic to all dogs. We are constantly around dogs and there have only been a couple where his allergies have acted up. And it's always when he is playing with a toy with them.
Here are a couple of pictures of Miss Pockets.
