Just some layouts I've done for challenges over at Scrap Orchard.

My first project

I actually finished these a week ago but I'm just now getting around to posting. I finished my first crochet project! It was an easy pair of fingerless gloves. I love them! I made some adjustments in the pattern as I wanted holes for my thumbs and I also modified the fingerloop as when I put them on it was uncomfortable. I will be making another pair of these and a more complicated pair also.

Picaboo card review

Awhile I posted that I placed an order with Picaboo for my Christmas cards. I had purchased a Groupon for $35 for $100 worth of product. I was going to make a book but couldn't get my act together before it expired so I decided to do my Christmas cards. I will say that over all I am thrilled with my decision.
Here is the digital version of the card.

Here is the photo of the card. Sorry they are not great as I'm using the camera on my phone.

They are pretty much what I saw on my screen. They came in a big brown padded envelope then wrapped in plastic with envelopes included.

The software to upload is fairly easy to use and so is the site overall. I had a little bit of trouble getting my Groupon to work but it didn't take me long to figure out what I was doing wrong. They are a tad pricey (at least to me). I ordered 30 cards and the price was about $70 including shipping. I don't remember which cardstock I chose and that does help determine the price. I also could have opted for a postcard type card and that would've made it cheaper also but I really wanted a folded card.
All in all I would definitely order from them again. I still have some Groupon funds left so I may start working on a small book to have printed.

Mine was awesome! I hung out @ Scrap Orchard most of the day...until I went out Saturday night. Man I had a great day. Got a ton of stuff and didnt spend too much $$$. lol. thats always good right? I would have spent a lot of money however I had some PlumPerks that have added up and used those to get a couple things. I wish I had more $ to spend but oh well maybe next year.

I started a couple of challenges but only ended up finishing one layout AND I didnt finish it in time so I didnt get my token:( Oh . It's my fault. With the time change & the time zone thing, I was all messed up. The 1 layout I did get finished was for the Boggle challenge. Here it is:

My first flower

I am slowly but surely learning to crochet thanks to Ginny Vendt(SIL mother), the many craft blogs, & youtube. I found a video tutorial to make these cute little flowers. So I thought Id give it a try. Here is the result.

Not too bad. Not great either but hey. I seem to have issues with counting & figuring out what is considered a stitch. I believe that is why my flower is a tad lopsided. I will get this one day. I think I will try to make another tomorrow.

Well awhile back I bought a Groupon to Picaboo Prints. Its worth $100 and I think I paid either $35 or $40 for it. Great deal. I was going to make a book but didn't have my act together enough for that so I decided to do my Christmas cards thru them. I just placed my order on Tuesday nite/Wednesday morning and I just received an email saying that my cards have been shipped!!!! I cannot wait to see how they look.
When they arrive I plan on posting the digital version and a pic of the actual printed card. Side note to myself, make sure you take a pic with CJ & Diva this Christmas so you don't have to ask everyone you know if they have one.

Been a long time...

Wow...it has really been a long time since I have posted!
LIFE sorta got in the way. Ever since my grandma passed in '09, I lost all mojo to scrap. I laxed on my CT duties and to those designers, I am truly sorry! I really am. I also fell into a sort of funk after she passed and didn't do too much of anything. I had no desire to scrap at all. I've completed a total of probably 7 pages in the past couple years. I've been slowly trying to get back into scrapping. I've missed it. Now it's a kind of therapy almost for me. I will hopefully be posting some pages soon altho some are too personal as they are journal pages.

How was everyone's NSD? Mine ok. Couldn't spend as much as I wanted. Got enough to tide me over I guess tho! Shabby Pickle had an awesome dollar section. Was thrilled to see that. It's been awhile. Been busy in real life and haven't scrapped much lately. Don't get me wrong, I still find time to browse my fav sites, just not time to scrap. By the time I'm done browsing I am so tired I go to bed. I have been working at a temp job for a few hours everyday. So I guess I'm tired from that. Anywho.

The Price of Children

Here is something absolutely positive for a change.

Have repeatedly seen the breakdown of the cost of raising a child, but this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way.

It's nice.... !

The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140.00 for a middle income family.

Talk about price shock!

That doesn't even touch college tuition.

But $160,140.00 isn't so bad if you break it down.

It translates into:

* A mere $24.24 a day!
* Just over a dollar an hour.

Still, you might think the best financial advice is:

Adjusting to life

without my grandma has been very difficult. It still feels like a dream that she is no longer here. I know she's not here because someone daily reminds me that she is gone. I miss her so much. I feel now I have no one to talk to. She used to get me through the things that we upsetting me. Now what do I do?

Well it's official. I've been on earth 29 years. Technically my birthday is the 29th, but since it only comes every 4 years, I celebrate my bday on the 28th. My mom celebrates it on the 1st. I always tell her that my birthday is not in March. She still doesn't listen. Oh well what can you do.

Besides I am not much in the mood for celebration. I am too busy wallowing in my sorrow. You can call me selfish or whatever you want. I don't care. I just want my granny back.

I have to go there because I am secretly in love with this man. Rapper TI surprised the students at a local school here in St. Louis. It is part of his required community service. Had I known I would have been hanging out in the school parking lot all day! Just for a glimpse! Not too many celebrities would make me so excited but he is definitely one of them. I am not sure what it is about him but man oh man...

I never realized

How much I depended on my grandma. She has been there for me pretty much every single day of my 28 almost 29 years here on earth. And for the past 8 years, we got even closer as I rented the apartment upstairs from her. She helped me in so many ways. She always was there to listen. Never can I remember her telling me that she didn't have time right now or could we talk later. Whenever/whereever/whatever I needed, she always took care of it right away. If I wanted to run to the store and not bring the kid, she would keep him. If I had doctors appointments, school, wanted to go out, or just because he wanted to see his GG, he was welcomed with open arms no matter what time of day. On Saturdays, I tend to sleep in, he would go down and eat breakfast and watch cartoons. If we were out of milk, she always had some. She always kept yogurt in the fridge because she knew he would be coming downstairs looking for some. On nice days, she would call and ask if he could go outside and sit on the front porch with her. They would spend hours out there together. When he needed help with homework and he was frustrating me, he would take his book down and she would help him finish. There's a million more things that she did for me.

What a week

It has been the longest week of my life and most of it was bad. It's hard for me to talk about it so I wont go into all the details.

I will tell you something good. Check the sidebar! I made Valorie Brown's CT! Woot! So excited. With everything that has been going on I had almost forgotten that I applied. Then I got the email. I was like-WHAT???

So here is my first official CT layout for her.

Monumental Sadness

I can't believe it. My grandma died today. There are no words that anyone can utter to make me feel any better.

Although it's impossible for me to do, I need to stop crying. She would not want me crying at all. I loved my grandma so much. Words cannot explain. I will miss her dearly. When everyone gave up on me, she was there in my corner rooting for me. Always. No matter what I have done, or what I have said, she has stood by me through thick and thin. There were many times I feel, I took advantage of her. She would say-That's what family is for.

She took a big piece of my heart with her.

I miss you and I love you G. Always and forever.

Saw this in a post over @ SSD.

After 17 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to
take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She
said, 'I love you, but I know this other woman loves
you and would love to spend some time with you.'

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit
was my MOTHER, who has been alone for 20 years,
but the demands of my work and my two boys had
made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.

'What's wrong, aren't you well,' she asked?
* * *
My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a
late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news.

'I thought it would be pleasant to spend some
time with you,' I responded. 'Just the two of us.'
She thought about it for a moment, and then said, 'I would like that very much.'

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick
her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her
house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous
about our date. She waited in the door. She had curled her hair and was wearing the
dress that she had worn to celebrate her last birthday on November 19th.

She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an
angel's. 'I told my friends that I was going to go
out with my son, and they were impressed,' she said,

on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much that we missed the movie.

As we arrived at her house later, she said,
'I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.' I agreed.

asked my wife when I got home.
'Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined,' I answered.

A few days later, my mother died of a massive
heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn't
have a chance to do anything for her.

just about being a mother; it's about appreciating

Well I hosted my first challenge over @ ES. It went better than any other challenge I've done. This one was a recipe challenge all about the number one. You can click on the link above to see the details. Maybe you want to play along too!

I was browsing over at DST today(nothing new) and I came across this poem written by the amazing Thena! I honestly don't know how she does it. She has written hundreds(probably thousands) of poems.
I thought this poem is fitting since it's the beginning of the year and everyone is trying to lose weight. It just fits.

A Weighty Matter

I awoke this morning
And examined a new diet
I thought to myself
It wouldn't hurt to try it!

As I glanced at the tidy packages
From the first to the last
I was ready to begin
With powdered “Lose Weight fast.”

I unzipped a tiny package
And poured in some water
(It would barely suffice
To hydrate a baby daughter).

It occurred to me as I stirred
And stirred it again
(Trying to find something
To remove at least one chin...)

That if this food was so perfect-
Each drink I must make
How come Eden's garden
Didn't come with a shake?

Green veggies and rosy apples,
Plump pears, bananas and more
All kinds of sweet fruit
I can get fresh from the store.

But nowhere do I see in the packages
Ere I peek inside them
Any luscious sweet nourishments
There's no place to hide them!

So, I've reconsidered just have fast I must lose
Along with the weigh loss method to choose.
I will just march along slowly wearing a grin
And accept all of photos with at least one double chin.

I will eat my veggies
My fruit plump and ripe
And when I can't have bacon
I'll try not to gripe.

I will cut down on sweets
And try to be good
About exercising each day
While eating those things I should.

So by by powered stuff
Sold in tiny packets
I tried that route
And I just couldn't hack it.

I need crunching and chomping
And flavor and taste
Otherwise lunchtime
Would just be a waste!

I love aroma and flavor-
Steam rising up that just won't stop:
I need seasonings and salads
With croûtons on top.

I need the nutrients
That God put in our food
Along with the flavors
That makes it so good!

But if all of that fails
And my frame is not svelte
If my cheeks are still plump
And my ankles still “swelt”...

I will work from home

I just found out a digi friend is going through some serious and upsetting things with her family. Her heart is breaking. That makes me so sad. She is an awesome chica and I wish I could fly the couple thousand miles in between us to help her. Sorry I just had to get that off my chest. I've been upset about it all night.

to everyone! Hi how's your new year's treatin' ya so far?

Mine I'm still kinda blah. Sat on the couch most of the day. Haven't scrapped in FOREVER!!! I guess I'm in a rut. I have alot of CT stuffs I really need to catch up on.

I have to get my butt in gear tho. I will be hosting the surprise challenge over at ES in the next couple of days. I will post and let you know about that. I also challenged myself to the 365 challenge. I will be making a separate blog for that. I will hopefully be uploading once a week. I will be doing good if I can do that. I can imagine uploading and posting photos daily. I'm not that good.

I haven't made any "resolutions" per se. But I do want to make some changes in my life. I can tell you that 2008 just sucked for me! I WILL NOT have another year like that. I refuse to.

I want to give a big thanks to MGL aka Monica @ SBG. I won a $10 gc to her store. Well everyone who replied to her thread @ DST & MSA did! HOW AMAZING IS THAT! I also won $20 worth of gc to a few people's stores at Funky Playground. Thanks Di-ahh. I had fun. I will so be there next year if you do that again!

Dear Santa:

I've been a good Mom all year. I've fed, cleaned, and cuddled my two children on demand, visited the doctor's office more than the doctor has, sold sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the school playground and figured out how to attach nine patches onto my daughter's girl scout sash with staples and a glue gun.

I was hoping you could spread my list out over several Christmases, since I had to write this letter with my son's red crayon, on the back of a receipt in the laundry room between cycles, and who knows when I'll find anymore free time in the next 18 years.

Here are my Christmas wishes:
I'd like a pair of legs that don't ache after a day of chasing kids (in any color, except purple, which I already have) and arms that don't flap in the breeze, but are strong enough to carry a screaming toddler out of the candy aisle in the grocery store. I'd also like a waist, since I lost mine somewhere in the seventh month of my last pregnancy.

If you're hauling big ticket items this year I'd like a car with fingerprint resistant windows and a radio that only plays adult music; a television that doesn't broadcast any programs containing talking animals; and a refrigerator with a secret compartment behind the crisper where I can hide to talk on the phone. On the practical side, I could use a talking daughter doll that says,"yes, Mommy" to boost my parental confidence, along with one potty-trained toddler, two kids who don't fight, and three pairs of jeans that will zip all the way up without the use of power tools.

I could also use a recording of Tibetan monks chanting, "don't eat in the living room" and "take your hands off your brother," because my voice seems to be just out of my children's hearing range and can only be heard by the dog. And please don't forget the PlayDoh Travel Pack, the hottest stocking stuffer this year for mothers of preschoolers. It comes in three fluorescent colors and is guaranteed to crumble on any carpet making the in-laws' house seem just like mine. If it's too late to find any of these products, I'd settle for enough time to brush my teeth and comb my hair in the same morning, or the luxury of eating food warmer than room temperature without it being served in a Styrofoam container.

If you don't mind I could also use a few Christmas miracles to brighten the holiday season. Would it be too much trouble to declare ketchup a vegetable? It will clear my conscience immensely. It would be helpful if you could coerce my children to help around the house without demanding payment as if they were the bosses of an organized crime family; or if my toddler didn't look so cute sneaking downstairs to eat contraband ice cream in his pajamas at midnight.

Well, Santa, the buzzer on the dryer is ringing and my son saw my feet under the laundry room door. I think he wants his crayon back. Have a safe trip and remember to leave your wet boots by the chimney and come in and dry off by the fire so you don't catch cold. Help yourself to cookies on the table, but don't eat too many or leave crumbs on the carpet.

I really was hoping to be able to make one of them because I have never done a speed scrap before. Oh well. I hope they will do more in the future.

This is with the new kit-Give Thanks- Pam has out @ ES & the DigiChick. She is the visiting artist there this month @ DigiChick. I must say I really like this kit. A lot. Yes I'm a little biased but I still really like it. I would definitely buy it if I wasn't on her CT!

This is another one with a new kit of Pam's. Have you ready Twilight yet? Gone to see the movie? If you are a Twilight fan, then this kit is for you. It's called Dazzled and it is perfect for scrapping those photos of you going to see the midnight screening! Although, this kit is very veristile as I used it to scrap my cousin's wedding. I had paper scrapped this photo before, but I wanted to do it again and this kit was perfect as it was also the colors of her wedding.

This is one that I've been coming back and forth with for a couple months. Thanks to the help of Hummie, I've finally finished it. If you don't know who Hummie is, visit her here. She is one amazing lady! Very giving and helpful. If you are using Photoshop Elements, I highly recommend visiting her site. She has a subscriber's area with many video tutorials for Elements. I think she may have some kits and things in there too. Also if you love challenges, you can find many various types of challenges in her forums. If you are reading this--THANKS HUMMIE!

This next one was very hard for me to do. Remember me telling you about my aunt who had MS? Well on November 1st, she lost her battle. I could not make this layout without some tears, and as I am typing now, I am trying to hold them in. She was a very special person and she will be greatly missed.

Stressed to the Max

I am stressed. Very stressed. If I could just find a job that would take a whole lot of my stress away. It's really really rough out there. No one is hiring. No one. It seems like everyday I turn on the news and another major company is laying off hundreds of people or are closing. That doesn't even include the "small businesses" that have had to closed their doors. Does this scare anyone besides me? Things seem to be getting worse before they are getting better. One good thing is that gas has gone down here. $1.97/gallon is what it was yesterday. That is nice. Who knows if it stay that way tho.

I am exhausted. I should be sleeping. I am so tired my eyes are burning. I am stressed.

On Friday I had to take CJ for an EKG. Still don't have the results from that yet. Took him to the Trunk or Treat that was up the street from my Mom's house.

Saturday was never-ending. I had 3 parties and a soccer game that I was supposed to go to. Well we made it to 2 of the parties and the game. My nephew had a bowling party for his 5th birthday. We had to leave early to make it to the game. I would have just said forget the game but some friends wanted to come to the game since it was his last one of the season. After the game, we went home, got showers and headed to party #2. We stayed there until 10.

Why am I telling you all of this because I am so pissed I missed out on so much DSD stuff!! For weeks I will be at home with nothing to do, then on DSD everyone I know wants me to come to a party?!?!? WTF?! Ok. End of rant. Gong to pout now.

Seems like forever since I've blogged

This week has been hectic. I am working part time for my mom's law office. They are moving to a new office space and I have been helping them pack up their stuff. Talk about a mess! My body has been aching all week. My back can't take too much more of this.

On top of that my little guy got sick. It started on Wednesday and has gotten worse as the days go on. I took him to the doctor on Friday and got him medicated up. It still was getting worse. This morning he woke up coughing so hard he threw up. Then he couldn't stop. Poor guy was in there for like 15 minutes. It was all phlegm, but that didn't make it any less gross. We both ended up going back to sleep and didn't wake up till around 12:30! Obviously we both needed to catch up on some sleep.

I finished a couple of layouts today. One was for my CT at Creative Victorian Designs.

The kit I used was Autumn Journeyby Creative Victorian Designs. The alpha is Brown Bag Alpha by Pamela Donnis.

The other was a just because layout.

There are too many heated "debates" going on. Some of them are just getting down right nasty. I am not participating because honestly I don't think scrapbooking and politics should really mix. I have met too many nice ladies to get in that type of banter. I don't want to make any "enemies". The only thing I have to say about it is, I don't believe in all the mudslinging between the candidates and everyone else. It is seriously getting bad. As Americans, I think most of us want the same thing: a safe place to raise our families, decent healthcare for all, a better economy, and different forms of energy to get us around.

It's getting down to the wire. Only a few more days to make sure you are registered to vote. I will not get into political stuff right now. All I will tell you is PLEASE go vote. If you don't do it for yourself- DO IT FOR YOUR KIDS. So much that's going on right now affects them tremendously. I don't care how you vote. Just vote. Try to educate yourself with as much info as you can about the candidates. Don't believe EVERYTHING you read, but please do check around a few places. In a little over a month, the nation will be making its decision on who is going to run our country.

I just worked a temp job today and it drained most all of my energy...
The man that I have to work for has serious OCD!! He monitored how I stapled the papers. Then he basically followed me around the WHOLE DAY correcting the stuff he thought was wrong. I put the post it notes in the wrong spot like 100 times! We literally spent TWO ENTIRE HOURS working on one single invoice. I printed that damn thing like 20 times and it was 3 pages. We killed so many trees. And he doesn't recycle! ARgh! Also he still uses a typewriter. Who still uses those? He was upset because the address wasn't lining up on the envelope. To my defense I haven't used a typewriter since typing class when I was a Sophomore! I wish to invite him to 2000 and 8. Whatever. I don't know how well this is going to work. I'll tell you if I have another day tomorrow like I had today, I will not be going back on Thursday. I am not that hard up for a job. Yuck.

Tomorrow I start my guest CT gigs for Tracy Blankenship and Creative Victorian Designs! I have started my d/l from CVD and will be working on a cute hybrid for my son. To give a little hint, I hope it encourages him to read more!

I got my reorder from MyPicTales. I must say that WOW. They did a really great job! The trimming was 98% better. There was a tiny mistake on 2 of the layouts and from what I have found out, I think it was my fault. I didn't think anything was wrong with the colors on the first set but OMG! the colors on the 2nd set were POPPING off the page. I was so excited to get the 2nd prints and be happy with them. The customer service was pretty good too. They responded really fast. I am excited to say I just uploaded 98 12X12, and 37 8X8 layouts today and am awaiting my new set of prints. I had a coupon for $100 off, otherwise I doubt I would ever order that many at one time. I suggest that everyone try them at least once. For the prices you really can't beat it. 12X12 prints are 75 cents and 50 cents for 10X10, 8.5X11, 8X8, & 6X6. I plan on making a book for myself, I think with the 6X6. A Snapshot of me. I took the idea from Creating Keepsakes September issue, I think. Just have to get started on it . I have so much I am trying to do in such a short time. I am participating in the recipe swap over at SSD and will probably use the 6X6 for that too!

And it will be October! Do you know what else that means? It means I start my guest CT gigs for Tracy Blankenship and Creative Victorian Designs. I'm ready. I have ideas in my head for some stuff that will hopefully be Christmas presents. I some some card ideas too that I would really like to complete. They had pdf's with full instructions on 2Peas website. If I find the link again I'll be sure to link you up.

I need to change my blog again. I have been blogging more regular now so I guess I look at it more and I would like to change it again. I just am discouraged cause I had so many problems last time I changed it. Ah. Oh well...

Thanks to Hummie I found vi.sualize.us. It's a pretty neat idea. I only have one fav in there right now but I will be adding more soon I hope. I also just signed up for Kaboodle. Don't have anything in there yet either. Not sure quite how to work that one.

ChrissyW let me try out her new keyplate album template set and her AWESOME collab with Angie Kovacs. Those two ladies work so well together! I had a few things come up this week and wasn't able to print it out. I am so upset. I can't wait till I can print it out. I am going to give it to my play niece. It is a book of her birthday party.

Megan is having a hybrid challenge here. The prize is AMAZING! I think if I can find the money to print, I am going to try it.

Today my mom and I went to visit my Aunt Elaine. Her birthday is tomorrow. She will be, I think, 52 years old and she lives in an "old folks" home. She has MS and over the past 10 years it has slowly taken her youth from her. She can barely walk, talks slow, seems "confused" about who everyone is. Her husband Joe has been the MOST SUPPORTING person I think I have ever seen. She began to start getting sick not too long after they got married. He has stuck by her side since day ONE! He has done everything humanly possible to keep her out of that place for as long as he could. He hired nurses, had family come and help out, took time off from work, and anything he could think of. It was a very hard decision for him to make. He was in tears for days. On top of that I think he thought we would be mad. It was just getting too much for everyone and for Elaine. She would sometimes get belligerent, she would try to get up and walk around on her own. The final straw I think was when she tried to walk somewhere and his mom ( who is in her 70's or 80') was trying to help her. Now while my aunt is a tiny woman, when she fell, his mom tried to catch her and they both ended up falling. And getting hurt. He agonized over it, but we all understood. I would say she's been there for about two years. She seems not to mind. She is very social(as much as she can be), she's always going to a party or some activity. I just wish she was able to enjoy her grandchildren like normal people. Her eyes light up everytime she sees one of them. But she can't pick them up or hold them and can barely hug them. I just wish she didn't have to go though all of this.

Apparently I don't type as fast as I thought I did. I know I am kinda slow. My brain has issues making my fingers go where I really want them to go when typing. I don't know why. Been like that FOREVER. My typing teacher would get sssssssooooooooo frustrated with me. I think he felt a little bad for me so that's why I passed.

Ok. I am really excited, yet upset at the same time. It is the season premier of the final season of ER.
I have seen every single episode since the very beginning. I don't think there is an episode that I haven't seen. I will be so sad to see it go.

Oh well. Here is a layout I have been working on for like months. I started it as soon as I got my pics uploaded from Vegas. I just finished it like Saturday. I needed a string that I really liked and it took FOREVER for me to find it. I finally found it in a freebie! WooHOo! Thanks to Gunhild Storeide. I recolored it of course but I love it!
